Adele’s song, “My Little Love,” from her album 30, is honestly such a beautiful song that expresses a rollercoaster of emotions. When I first heard the song I felt all the emotions that Adele tried to showcase, and her ability to express her personal experiences just through her beautiful storytelling.

Her lyrics in her song “My Little Love” are so heartbreaking; she conveys guilt, confusion, and her compassionate love for her son. The lyrics, “ I’m holding on, Mama’s got a lot to learn” sums up the vulnerability of being a parent and still dealing with personal struggles. The song also includes not just her singing beautifully  but it also includes excerpts of her son’s voice. These snippets of her son’s voice makes the song way more emotional and gives it a more relaxed and friendly tone.

Musically, the vocalizing in this song is just so truly unique. The calming instruments in the background creates a warm, yet melancholic tone. The layered strings create a much more emotional mood, and the minimalist quality allows Adele’s voice and emotions to take center stage. The arrangements of all these different instruments mirrors a stream of consciousness, and there isn’t a really big chorus; it’s just very steady and it reflects the vulnerability of the song’s subject matter. 

Adele conveys certain themes in “My Little Love,” like motherhood, guilt, loneliness, and big self reflection. Adele doesn’t try to resolve her feelings, she just takes time to reflect on them. This allows the listener to take time to reflect as well, making the song more sad and personal for Adele, while showing us how love can coexist with pain and doubt.
