Hello Freshmen and Sophomores! Are you interested in attending the BOCES program in your Junior and Senior year? Here are the facts: You need to keep in mind that they look at grades to determine whether or not they let you in the program. Additionally they look at attendance, so for those of you who are interested in any of the many programs they offer, you MUST maintain your grades and attendance.
In addition to that, the many programs offered by BOCES are great career opportunities and future such as cosmetology (hairdresser/ barber, nail technician, etc.), HVAC, electrician and more. Many of the career opportunities pay very well.
The average electrician salary in New York is approximately $31 to $32 per hour, or roughly $65,000 to $70,000 annually, though rates vary by location within the state and by experience level, with journeyman and master electricians earning significantly more. For example, a journeyman in New York City may earn around $45 per hour, while an entry-level position in New York City starts lower.
If you plan on working in the field of aesthetics, BOCES can offer you a great opportunity for certification as well. The average annual salary for a nail technician in New York is approximately $47,196 per year, which is about $23 per hour. However, salaries can vary significantly, with hourly wages potentially ranging from the low $10s to over $30 depending on the city, experience level, and employer. For example, nail technicians in New York City often have a higher average hourly pay than those in other parts of the state. Based on an average hourly rate, a full-time barber could earn roughly $41,500 annually, but this varies significantly. With dedication and experience, especially if they possess the specialized skills to consider them a “Master Barber,” a barber’s income can reach over $100,000 annually, particularly when factoring in tips.
Some people assume that BOCES is a place to go as an alternative to college. However, it can also be a stepping stone on your way to college, especially if you plan on entering the medical field. Having the certification as a medical assistant can earn you around $45,109 to $49,000 annually. That would give you not only great income while attending college to continue earning degrees, but it would give you great experience in the medical field to build your resume.
