How does someone achieve something as significant as becoming a published author? Perhaps they write a whole novel, then have it released to thousands of libraries across the nation. Maybe they spend years drawing a comic book page by page, line by line. Or maybe, it takes one hundred words with a special mixture of creativity and determination. Central Islip High School’s very own Lisseth Hernandez is proof of that.
Young Writers runs contests each year. In these contests, students from different schools are able to submit their creative writing or poetry to be featured in a book of mini sagas as a published author. It inspires people to put their writing skills to the test in a battle of imagination and hard work, the end result creating a collection of unique writing styles and narrations. Even if a contestant’s writing doesn’t make it into the book, they can still admire their work with a newfound confidence. “Don’t doubt your writing, even things that you think might not get published, honestly do– and make sure the pressure doesn’t stop you from being as creative as you can in your entry,” says Hernandez.
