The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller is a unique spin on the Greek myth of Achilles. This book has been highly praised by several people and now my name can be added to that list. The Song of Achilles is centered around not Achilles, but around Patroclus, who history will say is Achilles’ “best friend”. It follows Patroclus from being a prince of a forgotten kingdom to being exiled, but that is when his life truly begins. As a reader you see the ups and downs of his life, war, and the most important of all, his relationship with Achilles. These two young men discover what it truly means to love someone and just how far you’re willing to go to protect the one you love. This bittersweet tale has never, and probably will never, leave my top five favorite books. It was interesting that the author chose to have Patroclus narrate the story when every myth has him merely as a side character. This decision made the book what it is. It’s an easy read when you’re in the mood for a Greek classic. The Song of Achilles is a book everyone should read as it’s beautifully written and has something for everyone. It’ll bring tears to your eyes but fill your heart with joy. I have no doubt in saying this book is a 5/5!

If you enjoyed this, you should read Clytemnestra: A Novel by Costanza Casati. Hands down two of my favorite books
